This is one of my favourite walls. I had only planned on doing 1 piece in NY so I wasn’t prepared for this one on the front of the gallery, alongside David Choe’s piece. The source image wasn’t great so I went to town on the abstract part almost totally obscuring the image. You have to work hard at it to figure it out. Thats the way it should be.
And so the time came for the Lazarides group show in NY. This was brewing for a while and I was doubled over with excitement for months as I hadn’t been to NY in 5 years. We took over an old abandoned building on the corner of Bowery and Houston and turned it into a magnificently raw exhibition space featuring new work from the great and the good at Lazarides. In the end over 30,000 people came through the doors over the 4 weeks.
This is the catalogue from the Lazarides Extravaganza, the raffle during Frieze Art Fair that was never to be. Legal laws prevented the raffle from going ahead so instead we put on a show at the Charing Cross space featuring all the works as well as burlesque performances and gnome bowling. Nice.
